Some Dental Problems

Gum disease:
Gum disease can be terrible. A gradual weakening of our gums can lead to tooth loss; forcing us to alter our diet and meaning that we lose our award winning smile. It is therefore vitally important that treatment for gum disease is sought as soon as it is identified.  The more advanced the condition, the more likely that surgical treatments will be necessary.

Bad breath:
Bad breath, medically called halitosis, can result from poor dental health habits and may be a sign of other health problems. Bad breath can also be made worse by the types of foods you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits. Many other diseases and illnesses may cause bad breath. Here are some to be aware of: respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, postnasal drip, diabetes, chronic acid reflux, and liver or kidney problems.

Dry mouth:
Without enough saliva you can develop tooth decay or other infections in the mouth. You also might not get the nutrients you need if you cannot chew and swallow certain foods.

Remember, if you have dry mouth, you need to be extra careful to keep your teeth healthy. Make sure you:
1.Gently brush your teeth at least twice a day.
2.Floss your teeth every day.
3.Use toothpaste with fluoride in it. Most toothpastes sold at grocery and drug stores have fluoride in them.
4.Avoid sticky, sugary foods. If you do eat them, brush immediately afterwards.
5.Visit your dentist for a check-up at least twice a year. Your dentist might also suggest you use a        prescription-strength fluoride gel (which is like a toothpaste) to help prevent dental decay.

Cavities:
Many people think cavities only affect children, but changes that occur with aging make cavities an adult problem too. Recession of the gums (a pulling away of gum tissue from the teeth), often associated with an increased incidence of gingivitis (gum disease), can expose tooth roots to plaque. Also, sugary food cravings can make anyone more vulnerable to developing cavities.

Gingivitis:
Gingivitis is an infection that occurs when bacteria invade soft tissues, bone, and other places that bacteria should not be. At the moment of infection, bacteria no longer help us, they begin to harm us. Infections, like other diseases, range from mild to severe or life-threatening. So we should be careful and follow your tips to avoid gingivitis.

Tooth erosion:
Tooth erosion happens when acids wear away the enamel on teeth. Enamel erosion can be caused by the following:
Excessive soft drink consumption (high levels of phosphoric and citric acids)
Fruit drinks (some acids in fruit drinks are more erosive than battery acid)
Dry mouth or low salivary flow (xerostomia)
Diet (high in sugar and starches)
Acid reflux disease (GERD)
Gastrointestinal problems
Medications (aspirin, antihistamines)
Genetics (inherited conditions)
Environmental factors (friction, wear and tear, stress, and corrosion).

If you are in a great deal of dental pain, you may have a tooth that has become abscessed, or infected. The problem, of course, is that most emergency dental services brooklyn do not handle the dental emergencies on regular basis. There are actually very few emergency dentist bayridge brooklyn, NY who offer emergency dental services.
